Purpose: To evaluate the cognitive skills of managers, supervisors and/or candidates for those positions.

Description: The Supervisory Skills Test (SST) is a 48 item objective test. This test measures the respondent’s understanding of management and supervisory principles, practices and behaviors. A total of twelve crucial management and supervisory skill dimensions are evaluated.

Validity: The content validity of the SST is based on extensive study and research that focused on identifying those skills, practices and behaviors that are required of essentially all managers and supervisors in order for them to he effective. The construct and. design of the instrument ensures proper universe of content, simplicity of item wording and minimization of such biases as acquiescence and social desirability

Administration: Facilitator administered and scored.

Application: Training needs analysis. Management and supervisory training. Career counselling and development.

Suitable For: First level supervision through middle management.

Scoring: Manual scoring instructions will be found on the back cover of the booklet. Question set collation with correct answers are provided.

What It Is

The Supervisory Skills Test is designed to help HRD and Training Professionals assess the understanding of key employees about essential management and supervisory principles and practices. The test consists of 48 true/false items that are distributed among these 12 question sets.

The Supervisory Skills Test can be used in many helpful ways. It can be used as a pre and post test in supervisory training programs; to help trainers evaluate training program effectiveness; to help develop training needs, analysis data from which training programs can be constructed; or, the SST can be made part of an organization’s career counseling program as it helps to identify developmental opportunities for employees who have current Or prospective supervisory level responsibilities.

You receive coded, online access to a complete set of masters for the reproduction of participant booklets, plus facilitator’s guide with administration and scoring guidelines. One-location licensing is provided for a 5 year period.

What It Is Based On

The SST is based on extensive literature research including a review of the theories of well known management scientists such as Herzberg, Maslow, Vroom, McGregor, Bennis, Skinner, Blake and Mouton and many others .
